Two standard 3mm LEDs and one 620Ω resistor are soldered to the 4 x 2 circuit board. Both soldered LEDs on the picture have the same orientation. The remaining holes are used to connect the setup to decoder.
First, light guide is removed. Because hole diameter of 4mm is different than standard LED diameters (3mm and 5mm), hole is first filled with two component adhesive and then hole of 3mm is drilled in the center. Meanwhile, standard 3mm LED with round end is filled to get flat end. Finally, flat end LED is inserted into the hole. 1kΩ should be put in series when connecting to decoder!
